First known as Dunns Settlement, named after the first settler in the area, Judge Williamson Dunn. He purchased the land from the Federal Government in 1808 and settled his family there in 1809.

Hanover, Indiana’s principal institution is Hanover College, which is located on the banks of the Ohio River. The college opened in 1827
