Indiana State Road 37 begins at an intersection with Indiana State Road 66 in Tell City Indiana and continues northeast to the Indiana State Line. At the Indiana State Line Indiana State Road 37 enters Ohio and become Ohio State Road 2. On its way northeast it passes through Perry, Crawford, Orange, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Johnson, Marion, Hamilton, Madison, Grant, Huntington, Allen, Counties.

Indiana State Road 37 enters Monroe County about 10.7 miles from its intersection with US Route 50 in Bedford, Indiana. About 12.5 miles north it intersects Indiana State Road 45 in Bloomington, Indiana. About 3.7 miles further north Indiana State Road 37 intersects Indiana State Road 46 at the nortern edge of Bloomington. About 11.7 miles north of this intersection Indiana State Road 37 enters Morgan County. In Monroe County the road is designated the Ruel Steele Memorial Highway.
