The Indiana Railroad Company maintains rail lines in the central and western portions of Indiana. It has rail lines in Marion, Johnson, Brown, Monroe, Green, Sullivan, Davies, Martin, Lawrence, Clay and Vigo Counties.
Indiana Rail Road Company in Monroe County
Length – Approximately 23 miles
The Indiana Railroad enters Monroe County from Green County about 1.4 miles north of Indiana State Road 45. It crosses Indiana State Road 45/37 on the western edge of Bloomington about 1.8 miles from the point at which the two highways merge. It plunges into Bloomington on the north side. There is a spur near Fairveiw and Tenth Streets. The spur leads back west and crosses Indiana State Road 45/37 about 3.9 miles north of the highways intersection with the main line. About .75 miles north of Indiana State Road 46′s intersection with 3rd Street on the east side of town the Indiana Railroad Company rail line crosses the highway and shoots northeast. It intersects Indiana State Road 45 about 4.2 miles from its intersection with Indiana State Road 46 near Bloomington. It continues towards the northeast, traveling along Lake Lemon and parelling East South Shore Drive for several miles before exiting Monroe County and into Brown County.
